The turf is the surface your players feel on every shot — the bounce, the slide, and the grip all depend on it. Whether you're ordering a complete court or replacing turf on an existing one, this guide explains the key choices: fibrillated vs monofilament, pile height, sand infill, and color options.

1. Fibrillated vs Monofilament Turf

These are the two main turf fiber types used on padel courts:

  • Fibrillated turf: flat tape-like fibers that are split (fibrillated) into a mesh. It's softer underfoot and offers a slightly more cushioned feel — a popular choice for recreational and club play.
  • Monofilament turf: single, round fibers that stand upright more firmly. It offers better ball bounce consistency and durability, often preferred for competitive and premium courts.

Hllye offers both fibrillated and monofilament options on our courts, so you can choose based on your club's playing level and budget.

2. Pile Height and Density

  • Common pile height: 10-12mm for padel courts. Hllye offers 10mm textured turf (WPT standard) and 12mm monofilament grass.
  • Density: higher stitch density (stitches per square meter) means a firmer, more durable surface.
  • Why it matters: pile height and density affect ball bounce speed and how well the sand infill stays in place.

3. Silica Sand Infill

Padel turf is never used bare — it's filled with silica sand:

  • Purpose: sand weighs down the turf, keeps fibers upright, and provides the consistent, slightly gritty surface padel players expect.
  • Application: after laying the turf, sand is spread evenly and brushed in to the specified depth.
  • Maintenance: sand migrates over time, especially in high-traffic areas — top it up and re-brush regularly (see our maintenance guide for details).

4. Turf Colors and Branding

Padel courts come in a range of turf colors. Popular options include:

  • Classic green and blue — the most common for clubs
  • Clay/orange and purple — distinctive looks for premium or branded courts
  • Custom colors: some clubs match turf to their brand identity

Hllye offers multiple turf color options to match your club's branding.

5. What's Included in a Complete Court Order

When you order a complete Hllye court, the turf package includes:

  • Professional turf (fibrillated or monofilament, your choice)
  • Silica sand infill
  • Turf seaming materials and installation guidance
  • Optional custom colors for branding
