Leeds United struggling

12 months ago, Leeds United were flying high in the Premier League in their first season back in the top-flight.

Fast forward to now, and it is a very different feel that surrounds Elland Road and Marcelo Bielsa’s side. With just one win in their last five games, they currently sit just above the relegation zone, but three of the four sides below them have at least one game in hand on the Yorkshire side.

Injury-ridden, the poor form has not dimmed Leeds’ support for their manager, with chants of “Marcelo Bielsa” ringing around Elland Road even as they found themselves 4-1 down against Arsenal last weekend.

Reinforcements are desperately needed in the January transfer window, even if it coincides with the return of some first team players, in order for Leeds to avoid being caught up in a relegation dogfight come the end of the season.

And, if reports are to be believed, they have already identified their first target.

Short stay for Junior Firpo?

Junior Firpo only joined Leeds United from Barcelona in the summer, but could already see his spot under threat.

He has flattered to deceive so far in Leeds white, with a few good performances scattered between some dreadful ones. And, according to reports coming out of Brazil, he could soon have competition.

According to TNT Sports Brasil, Leeds are preparing to stump up 23 million euros for left-back Guilherme Arana, the 24 year old currently plying his trade at Atletico Miniero.

This would raise serious question marks about the future of Firpo, but could go a long way to solving Leeds’ defensive issues on the left-flank. More would be needed, but it would certainly be a step in the right direction.
